Bubby's Birthday Cake

Here is little Bubby's cake for his second birthday. He loves Thomas. I don't know if he has ever watched the entire show, but he loves the songs and dances to them. He always recognizes Thomas and gets excited if he sees pictures at the store, so I knew we needed a Thomas the Tank Engine cake.

I used a 13 x 9 cake for the base, and the Wilton Choo Choo Train pan for Thomas. This train is not really meant to be Thomas, so I had to modify it a bit. I was happy with the way it turned out. I decorated the train separately, and it was on it's own cake board, which was larger than the base of the train. I covered the cake board up with stars, and it ended up looking nice, sort of like the train was up on a little platform.

If I was doing it over again, I would make the face first. I did it last on this cake, and it was much harder, because I was so afraid I was going to mess up the rest of the cake.

Camera Troubles

Sorry I have been so slow posting. I have had camera troubles lately. I though maybe my rechargeable batteries had gone bad, they are over a year old. So I bought some new ones. Turns out, the batteries were probably fine, it is the camera. It is sucking them dry, sitting overnight turned off.

We had a fun day Saturday, though. Here is Peanut's cake.

The guys got the trim all painted on the house. Thanks Dad! That has been such a load off Todd's mind. And the house looks really good.

Peanut got a lot of great stuff. She is now the proud owner of a pair of gerbils. I have a picture of one. I am trying to take a picture of the other one. It is hard to get good pictures of them, because they are pretty fast.

We had a party for Junior on Saturday. He had a great time. Here is a picture of his cake. He had a "Cash Cab" cake in honor of his favorite show

Afterwards, Dad and the two grandpas worked on the backyard playhouse. It looks great.

Final Cake Pictures

Here is my final cake from my class. It was a lot of work, but I am happy about the flowers.

Here is a view of the flowers on top of the bottom cake.

Here is the whole thing put together.

This is also made with the new, good-tasting, homemade fondant. Never use the Wilton stuff out of a box.

Another Cake Picture

Here is my cake from decorating class last night. It is the first fondant cake I have made, and it was very easy. I was surprised. I hate the color, it looks like Pepto-Bismol. But now I know not to use too much color paste in the fondant!

My Cake!

This month I took a cake decorating class. It was fun and not too hard, just a lot of work. It was the Wilton II course. Tonight was the grand finale. Here is my completed cake:

The little birds are icing too. I say that because Todd couldn't believe that part.

I think I am going to take Wilton III next month, because there is a big discount for July.

I know I haven't been updating this very often. Since the sun has been going down later and later, the kids go to bed later. It is just too hard to settle them down if it is not dark outside. But that means I don't have a lot of time between their bedtime and mine. For some reason wake-up time has not changed!

Now I have to go clean up my icing covered kitchen!

Junior's birthday party with his little friends went well. He had a lot of fun. Here he is with the "Pin-the-Banana-on-the-Monkey" game we made.
